Bell Tent in Carlsbad

Glamping is a portmanteau of glamorous and camping and describes a style of camping with amenities and, in some cases, resort-style services not usually associated with “traditional” camping.” wikipedia

Luxurious tent-living is not a new thing, it’s been around for ages. In the 16th century, the Scottish Earl of Atholl prepared a lavish experience in the Highlands for the visiting King James V and his mother. Here, the Duke pitched lavish tents and filled them with all the provisions of his own home palace. With the Internet, a new form of luxury nomads travel the globe and enjoy their freedom to live and work in style, without the confines of a conventional life fraught with modern stressors.

These extraordinary outdoor experiences are ‘just what the doctor ordered’ to escape from the hectic chaos of our every day modern lives. These carefully curated havens are not just a luxury but a necessity to spend time in nature, get off the grid and maybe even do a digital detox! It will regenerate and re-energize you so that you can re-acquaint yourself with the true meaning of life. Stunning scenery steps away from your own magical forest

This was my first experience sleeping in a glamping tent and I must say it was quite comfortable and well appointed. The feeling of being outside, yet draped in a womb-like tent was so relaxing. The hosts were very accommodating and the environment was very clean with soothing natural colors. The choice of decor, with soft, fluffy fabrics, super comfy bed and the clever use of twinkly lights added to the ambiance. With a remote and flip of a switch you will feel like a little kid again, and it was fun to lie in bed and see the tent draping you in warm and cozy surroundings. There was all the comforts of home basic appliances such as a sink, coffee maker, and small fridge. The outdoor shower and toilet was clean and a short step away. The location was extraordinary to explore one of the most popular resort areas in Carlsbad. From the beach to the cute villages, my fav was sleeping in a tent and then visiting the luxe resorts for a fancy snack! Don’t hesitate to book this most charming and sweet little glamping bell tent. You will probably want to stay a lot longer when you realize all the different activities to enjoy the area!

Not only was this a great choice, but I got to visit one of my fav spas, Omni La Costa Resort and Spa and check out the latest at the Chopra Center. The next day I went to the luxury Park Hyatt Aviara Resort and Spa and hung out by the pool.

(Maybe next time I’ll be more bold and remote, but probably not go solo.)

My experience was so pleasant and unique that I am finding myself revisiting the site over and over again, discovering so many outstanding places to visit all over the world. In fact, the more I see the photos of these out-of-this-world, off the beaten path places, I am less inclined to ever want to stay in a big, commercial hotel or resort again! The hosts of this property were very attentive, and focused on making sure their guests were comfortable and had so many little touches. From the heated mattress, a fan, a mini-sink, fridge and a lovely atmosphere with the twinkly lights at night that you could turn on from a remote next to your bed.

I have decided that this is the ‘ticket’ to experiencing the best of nature and also still having luxe accommodations. There are so many choices, you can spend the rest of your life filling your ‘bucket list’ on Glamping Hub! n this world of high tech, we need more high ‘touch’ and spending time in nature is the best prescription to de-stress.

You can get lost in travels while navigating this site and their are so many imaginative dwellings to visit. Here’s one in Costa Rica, enveloped in the rainforest, near the coast, that’s a refurbished airplane 727 with two air-conditioned bedrooms and even a swimming pool on the property! This is truly for the upcycled, eco-conscious traveler that enjoys a clever way to recycle the obsolete. I believe this will become a much needed and growing trend!

Talk about being immersed in the jungle canopy! The clever epurposing an obsolete 1965 Boeing 727 into a luxe 2 bedroom suite!

Another one that intrigued me was a “Uniquely Restored Rice Warehouse Rental For Vacation Getaways in Bali, Indonesia” which is in the most artsy town of Ubud. It also has a swimming pool (one of my must haves, plus near water or a beach)

Another is this astonishing and historic floating chapel turned luxurious private home is ideal for glampers who appreciate amazing architecture. The houseboat can be found in a marina on the Manatee River near Sarasota in Palmetto, Florida. (Which also has a swimming pool!)

Floating Chapel Turned Into Houseboat! Great Wedding/Honeymoon All In ONE!

Today the new trend is Experiential Travel which is a necessary byproduct of living your best life. If you’ve been there and done that, getting away from the superficial tourist activities and embracing an immersive cultural environment is the best way to have a peak travel experience. Getting out of your comfort zone will help you shift your perspective and the way you connect with the world. If you’re a savvy traveler, you may be seeking transformational travel experiences to enrich your life for a lasting impression. 7 Tips for Living in Balance: What I Learned From My Retreat With Deepak Chopra

Reprinted from my story in Longevity

Knowledge is useless until it is activated. On the last day of the Living in Balance retreat with Deepak Chopra and guests we were given a “Balance Tip of the Day.” This is a simple prescription for applying the teachings from the weekend into our daily lives at home.

  1. Make time to quiet the mind and meditate
  2. Eat a healthy balanced diet with lots of organic, pure, colorful, fruits and vegetables. Pay attention to including the six tastes (sweet, sour, bitter, astringent, salty, pungent) into each meal. Drink lots of pure, filtered water (without ice) and herbal elixirs and teas.
  3. Move your body, take breaks from desk work by getting up every half in hour if possible. Take in deep breaths, get outside in nature, walk barefoot and get grounded on the grass or sand.
  4. Cultivate loving relationships. Connect with your heart center and find ways to share your positive feelings with others. Get and give hugs. Healing touch is vital to health, so go and hug a loved one or a friend every chance you get. Don’t miss the opportunity to pet a dog or any pet and even a tree.
  5. Enjoy a good belly laugh at least once a day, uncontrollable laughter is the best medicine.
  6. Release emotional toxins. Take a moment to let go of worries, stress, and negative feelings.
  7. Make a ritual of good habits that lead to restful sleep. It is essential, and especially remove all technology from the bedroom or at least shut down and put your phone, laptop and iPad to bed.

Another Way To Balance Is With This Sleep Prep Tip

Unplug two to three hours before bed. Take a soothing bath with aromatherapy (with lavender and Epsom salts).  Keep a journal and make a gratitude list. Ask soul questions and reflect back on the day, so you can release the experience of it all and prepare for sweet dreams.

Humans Live For Meaning

If you are seeking more in-depth information, Dr. Deepak Chopra and Rudolph Tanzi have published a new book, The Healing Self,  which is a revolutionary new plan to supercharge your immunity and stay well for life. Deepak Chopra, The Healing Self: Supercharge your immune system and stay well for life

Living In Balance

With all the different choices and new scientific discoveries on how to live your best life, the first step is finding a deeper understanding and balance in your whole-body system and to understand how everything in your consciousness has an effect on your health.

Since my experience at the Living in Balance seminar, I have committed to making some significant changes in my life.  I appreciate more fully that the key is to be mindful of what is life-affirming and empowering and to learn how to listen to my own inner guidance.

As Deepak Chopra shares: “Humans are not biological robots. We live for meaning, for the personal value of every experience. The body metabolizes our experiences and sends the message to every cell, while the mind, in its own domain, processes experience in terms of sensations, images, thoughts, and feelings. Nothing fuses the whole-system effects of love and non-love like the human heart, which needs to be understood as more than a physical organ.”

This is the final instalment in our series covering the Living in Balance retreat. You can read part one here, and part two (which looks at a new form of anxiety) here.

I can’t resist the temptation to begin this story with the words of Deepak Chopra, the keynote speaker at the Living in Balance retreat I recently attended. He says, “To live without love, compassion, or any other spiritual value creates a state of such severe imbalance that every cell yearns to correct it. Ultimately, that is what lies behind the onset of disease; the body is sending a message that something lacking in the present—an imbalance existing somewhere—has given rise to highly visible, unarguable, physical symptoms.”

The man TIME magazine described as “one of the top 100 heroes and icons of the century” who introduced us to the Seven Spiritual Law of Success, opened up this life-changing seminar at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa, in California.

We Are All Stardust

As he sauntered onto the stage the excitement among the attendees was palpable. I must admit, I too was mesmerized by his extraordinary persona. Deepak Chopra has a distinctive personal style. He made a statement in his black Nehru vest, with the red piping trim, teamed with a black turtleneck shirt and bright red suede Nike sneakers and of course his signature eyeglass frames. Along with his rock star magnetism, he exudes this almost uncanny sense of calm and tranquility.

During his opening address, he shared with us deeply thought-provoking topics. Speaking about the nature of existence in the universe, he made the most complex quantum principles sound simply poetic. He explained that we are all stardust. That the gene, a unit of heredity, is actually a protein code (enzyme) and he shared how our genomics influences our lives.

Deepak Chppra at the Living in Balance Retreat

First there is the one cell, and then approximately 25 000 human genes that differentiate into the whole body and that our body is some 30-40 trillion cells, or more (the Milky Way has 250 billion ± 150 billion) and that the average cell will divide between 50-70 times before cell death. To make a body, there is morphogenesis, to give rise to form.

The Deepak Chopra Way

From that extraordinary introduction going forward, I would experience a virtual feast for the mind, body, and spirit that would shift my own way of thinking about health.

The event progressed with a seamless program of experts in the field of Ayurvedic healing. It provided the foundation for lifestyle enhancement through the Ayurvedic principles of preventative self-care to last a lifetime. Each presenter shared their personal passage into the world of alternative, integrative, complementary and functional medicine. They revealed how they too had arrived at the Chopra Institute at a pivotal time in their lives. Some were from the hardcore corporate America and had dropped out to follow their dream of living a more balanced lifestyle. Others were in mainstream medicine and realized there was a more comprehensive approach to heal the body, from the inside-out. They followed their inner guidance to this particular practice of wellness and became a beacon of light to share with patients.

Our first introductory lecture was with Dr. Sheila Patel. She introduced us to the basics of the ancient Ayurvedic healing. Ayurvedic medicine is one of the world’s oldest holistic (“whole-body”) healing systems. It was developed more than 3 000 years ago in India. It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. It’s a complete system of health, and the key is to identify what’s getting in the way of our natural healing. It is a consciousness-based healing system, beyond the physical.
